History and Origins of the Shiba InuThe History and Origins of the Shiba Inu is really interesting. The history of the Shiba Inu began many years ago in Japan. This breed originated from the primitive dogs of the ancient Japanese people. This is the smallest breed of dog out of the six distinct Japanese breeds which are Akita Inu, Tosa Inu, Shikoku Inu, Kishu Inu, Hokkaido Inu and Kai Inu. Although this is a small dog, it was originally bred to hunt small wild game, bear and boar! This difficult task required a courageous and bold dog that was small enough to hunt willingly through the dense undergrowth of the mountainous areas in Japan. This also meant that the dog had to be developed with strong instincts and a double coat that would keep it well protected which it was out hunting. This breed must be kept on a leash when out and about due to its natural hunting instincts which are still embedded within the dog, when it is off the leash it will be likely to chase small animals. |
