This is a giant breed that will need space and a fenced off area to roam around. This big dog is very alert and bright, it is friendly and bonds well with its owners and children also, although their huge size can be a little overwhelming for some. This breed should be socialized well when it is a puppy so that it can interact appropriately with strangers when it grows into an adult dog. The Scottish Deerhound has a dignified and charming personality, and around the house, it is usually fairly quiet; rarely barking or causing a fuss.
