Saint Bernard Dog Grooming Instruction - Brushing Hair and Coat Most dog's hair and coats need some attention. The Saint Bernard dog grooming instruction for caring for your dog's hair or coat is as follows: The St Bernard has two coat types, one is short, dense, smooth but rough, and the other type is medium in length and sometimes slightly wavy. Both coat types shed twice yearly and during these times should be groomed on a daily basis to help reduce the amount of dead hairs. However, during usual times when the dog or puppy isn't shedding, grooming twice per week should be fine and will keep the coat looking healthy and tangle-free. - Use a firm bristle brush and thoroughly groom your dog or puppy's hair
- Start at the puppy or dog's head and brush through the coat following the direction of hair growth. Take care when grooming around delicate areas.
