The Personality and Temperament of the Rhodesian Ridgeback is dignified and pleasant. This dog has a calm, gentle and obedient manner. It is a ferocious hunter but indoors it is quite the opposite. This breed is trainable and the right training will ensure that it is good around children, particularly older children as this is a large dog that likes to play and may knock little ones over. The Rhodesian Ridgeback enjoys being in the company of its family and it feels a sense of natural protection towards them. Puppies and dogs are a little more reserved around strangers so it's important to socialize them well from a young age to prevent this. This is a very confident and powerful dog so it is not really suitable for an inexperienced handler. This dog is more suited to an owner that will provide consistent firm but calm training and somebody who has time to attend to its needs and care for it properly. This breed requires a lot of daily exercise and would be particularly suited to a jogger.
