The Personality and Temperament of the Norwegian Elkhound is typically independent yet loving and affectionate. This dog was bred as a hunter and guardian so it is naturally courageous, alert and protective. The independent nature of the Norwegian Elkhound can make obedience training a little slow and difficult, but by no means impossible. In fact, this particular breed is versatile and tends to adapt very well to the household when provided with the right training. Dogs and puppies from this breed tend to be very friendly towards their family, they enjoy spending time with them. This breed is not solitary and company is important to them. The Norwegian Elkhound is energetic and active so it requires a fair amount of daily activity and exercise. This breed tends to get along with everybody including children, particularly when raised with them. However, as with all breeds of dog, the Norwegian Elkhound should be suitably supervised.
