History and Origins of the MalteseThe History and Origins of the Maltese is really interesting. The history of the Maltese began centuries ago when it was referred to as 'Ye ancient dogge of Malta'. This breed originated in Italy but it was recognized in Malta, and it is for this reason that the name 'Maltese' was given to this particular breed. Throughout history, the Maltese has been quite the status symbol and has been owned by many Royals across the world, throughout the centuries. This gentle, playful and confident little dog was bred to be a companion dog, and is still a very popular family pet in this day and age. The Maltese has a charming personality and a cute appearance. The long silky white coat of this breed makes it look very attractive and dignified. This breed was introduced to Great Britain by Crusaders on their return from the Mediterranean. The American Kennel Club officially recognized this breed in 1888. |
