History and Origins of the Japanese ChinThe History and Origins of the Japanese Chin is really interesting. The history of the Japanese Chin is believed to have began in China, although there is no firm evidence of this. It is also believed that this breed of dog was introduced to Japan in 732 when it was presented as a gift to the Empress. The Japanese Chin was further developed by the Japanese and it was bred to be a companion and it was somewhat a symbol of status. At one time, only those of Royalty and Nobility were permitted to own this breed of dog. The size and weight of the breed can vary quite considerably, and this is due to each noble house breeding to their own standards. It is believed that this breed couldn't be bought and could in fact only be given or received as a gift. There are drawings of the Japanese Chin on ancient embroideries and potteries from centuries ago. The American Kennel Club officially recognized this breed in 1888. This breed is sometimes also named the Japanese Spaniel. |
