The Personality and Temperament of the Great Pyrenees is alert, enthusiastic and naturally protective. This breed was originally bred as an independent worker and thinker, and its role was to protect its territory and flocks of sheep. This reflects in his personality today as this very large breed of dog is still independent which can make training a little difficult. However, unless provoked, the Great Pyrenees certainly does have a lot of appealing attributes to offer. It is placid, majestic, eager and extremely faithful. The temperament of the Great Pyrenees is polite, courteous and curious. This breed should be obedience trained and socialized from a young age so that it understands the importance of interacting and socializing when it becomes an adult dog. This breed tends to be very friendly, loving and affectionate towards its owners but not always towards strangers as it is naturally protective and can be a little wary.
