History and Origins of the Gordon SetterThe History and Origins of the Gordon Setter is really interesting. The history of the Gordon Setter started at the beginning of the 17th century in Scotland, Great Britain. The Scottish breeders initially bred the Gordon Setter as a personal bird dog. It was developed with strength, power and high levels of stamina and endurance, a strong sense of smell, and a suitable black and tan coat that could be easily identified across the terrain. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Gordon Setter was owned by Duke Alexander the fourth of Gordon. The American Kennel Club recognised this breed in 1884 and it belongs to the Sporting Group of Dogs. The Gordon Setter was often favored over faster and more speedier breeds such as Pointers. The popularity of this breed of puppy and dog has increased over the years and it is often found in various dog shows and competitions. This is a popular family pet as it is sweet-natured, intelligent, very loyal and easily trainable. | |
