History and Origins of the French MastiffThe History and Origins of the French Mastiff is really interesting. The history and origin of the French Mastiff, and how it was developed, remains unclear to this day. It is thought that the French Mastiff is somehow connected to the Bullmastiff, Bulldog and Tibetan mastiff. However, there is no real proof of this. The French Mastiff is often better known and recognized as the 'Dogue de Bordeaux'. The word 'Dogue' means Mastiff. This particular dog comes from one of the most ancient of the French breeds. The Dogue de Bordeaux was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2008. It is a very large, powerful and fearless dog that has a nice, even-temperament. It was originally bred to guard, hunt and fight. Over the years, it has been used to bait bulls, jaguars and bears, to hunt boars. This breed of puppy and dog is trainable and will eagerly attempt to please its master and carry out their commands. |
