History and Origins of the French BulldogThe History and Origins of the French Bulldog is really interesting. The history of the French Bulldog began in the 1800s in the city of Nottingham, England. Lacemakers, with the use of the early bulldog, developed a smaller sized breed which was called the toy bulldog, but would later be taken to France by lacemakers following the Industrial Revolution and re-named the French Bulldog in the late 1800s. This small dog was bred as a lap pet and a companion. It has a loving and affectionate temperament, and a bright, spirited and cheerful personality; attributes which make this breed a very appealing family pet and companion. This breed of puppy and dog became very popular in France and received particular interest from wealthy American visitors. The French Bulldog is still a very popular family pet and companion in today's times. The other names for this breed are the Frenchie, Toy Bulldog, and the Bouledogue Francais. |
