History and Origins of the DalmatianThe History and Origins of the Dalmatian is really interesting. It is uncertain where the history of the Dalmatian began; the breed could have originated from either Africa, Asia or Europe. The Dalmatian breed dates way and was known to have carried out many duties during the war, it has also been known as a draft dog, guardian, shepherd, fire-apparatus follower, firehouse mascot, ratter, bird dog, retriever and trail dog. The Dalmatian was used as a coach dog to run alongside horses in road trials. It made a fantastic coach dog as it is naturally very energetic, enthusiastic and highly spirited. The breed has a huge working and sporting heritage, and it is very popular as both a working dog and faithful companion to man. The Dalmatian has a unique appearance as it is the only breed to have a spotted coat. The American Kennel Club officially recognized this breed in the year of 1888. | |
