History and Origins of the CollieThe History and Origins of the Collie is really interesting. The history of the Collie isn't fully known. Their exact location of origin is uncertain, however, they first became apparent in Scotland and England, where they worked hard and enthusiastically as drover dogs which involved herding sheep and guiding cattle to market. A visit from Queen Victoria to the Highlands of Scotland during the 1860's saw the popularity of the Collie breed rise. Queen Victoria highly favored the breed and it was at this point that these dogs and puppies became trendy and fashionable; many wealthy people became owners. Queen Victoria kept Collies at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. There are two types of Collies; one type has a rough coat and the other type has a smooth coat. The rough coated type is more popular in this day and age than the smooth coated. The American Kennel Club recognized the Collie breed in 1885. | |
