It is also known as the Mascot of the Tongs, and is believed to bring luck. The Chinese Foo was originally bred to guard and protect Buddhist temples, and it is symbolised by the statue of the lion which is often seen standing at the foot of buildings throughout China. This breed of dog also appears on artwork, and has done so throughout history in China. The dog was developed and bred with a thick double coat that is weather-proof which allowed it to work and guard during poor weather conditions. It is a strong, powerful, bold and dedicated breed that has excellent guarding skills and abilities.
