History and Origins of the ChihuahuaThe History and Origins of the Chihuahua is really interesting. The exact history of the Chihuahua is somewhat uncertain but it is believed that the breed was derived from the Fennec Fox which was a small framed animal with big eyes and ears which are all features close to that of the Chihuahua. The name of the breed derives from the Mexican State of Chihuahua where it is believed to have originated from as this is where the earliest evidence of the breed has been found. It is believed that this dog was bred for companionship to man, and due to its proud, dignified and elegant nature, it was somewhat believed to be a status symbol as these dogs and puppies were often owned by upper class families and were also used in religious ceremonies. This is still a popular pet in today's times as it's a great companion that has minimal requirements. The American Kennel Club officially recognized the Chihuahua in the year of 1904. |
