History and Origins of the Cardigan Welsh CorgiThe History and Origins of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi is really interesting. The history of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi begins in Wales, in Cardiganshire. This is where the breed originated from when breeders required a dog that could help with farm work and herding cattle. There is another type of Corgi breed that is closely related to this one, it's the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. The Cardigan originated first and it is known as the Corgi with the tail. It is believed that this particular breed first originated in 1200 BC with the Celts. The production of this breed resulted in a dog that had a weather proof coat, that could work through poor weather conditions; an energetic dog that didn't tire easily, had an even temperament and would be an excellent companion. The breeders achieved all of these attributes through the creation of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. | |
