History and Origins of the BullmastiffThe History and Origins of the Bullmastiff is really interesting. The history of the Bullmastiff begins back in the mid 1800s when breeders decided that they required a large, strong and powerful dog that could guard and protect. A dog that had the ability and endurance to quickly track and hold down poachers without being vicious; a dog that showed no sign of fear and had outstanding courage and confidence. The Bullmastiff was developed through crossing the Bulldog and the Mastiff. The breed originated in England, Great Britain and the dogs were originally used to guard and protect large estates. The role of guardian meant that the breeders required a dog that would remain very quiet whilst working. The Bullmastiff doesn't tend to bark too much and consequently, are often used to guard homes in this day and age as they are watchful and willing but remain fairly silent whilst doing so. |
