History and Origins of the BulldogThe History and Origins of the Bulldog is really interesting. The history of the Bulldog is believed to have began in the British Isles. The dog was originally bred to fight and to bait a bull. The breeders required a dog that had a high pain threshold and could withstand attack; a dog that would show no sign of fear, that had impeccable courage and outstanding bravery. Dog fighting was made illegal in England and fortunately the Bulldog was developed, taking away any vicious or ferocious characteristics, whilst maintaining the loving, appealing qualities of this breed of puppy and dog. The Bulldog has since become an extremely popular family pet as it has a wonderful, even temperament which enables it to bond very well and have an excellent relationship with humans. This breed belongs to the Non-Sporting Group and it was officially recognised by the American Kennel Club in the year of 1886. |
