History and Origins of the Border TerrierThe History and Origins of the Border Terrier is really interesting. The history of the Border Terrier began back in the 18th century when breeders, located between the borders of England and Scotland, decided that they wanted a dog which could hunt fox, which was fearless and hard-working; a dog that would be willing and able to work through poor weather conditions in order to guard livestock, to have the ability to follow and hunt in order to provide themselves with food which was a necessity for them when they were used for working on farms during these times. The terrier that they produced is believed to be one of the oldest breeds of terrier in Great Britain. The breed was officially recognised by the American Kennel Club in the year of 1930. In today's times, this breed is still used for farm work, however, dogs and puppies from this breed are intelligent and very much adaptable to family life. They are popular family pets. | |
