This dog was originally bred for herding and it shows outstanding dedication, talent and ability. This breed has high levels of intelligence; dogs and puppies are very clever and enthusiastic. They have an immense amount of energy which must be exerted through high levels of varied exercise on a daily basis. Dogs and puppies are also very protective towards their owners so it is important to provide them with suitable training from an early age in order to socialize them well and to avoid their characters becoming overly-possessive. This is an observational breed that is very much aware and alert to what is happening around them. Dogs and puppies are loving and show affection towards their owners. They can be a little withdrawn around strangers, and sometimes their boisterous and protective ways can be a little too much around children, particular young children.
