History and Origins of the BloodhoundThe History and Origins of the Bloodhound is really interesting. The history of the Bloodhound is a little uncertain, however, we know that they originated in Europe although the exact country of origin is unknown. The Bloodhound has been bred in America for over 100 years, and it was formally recognised by the American Kennel Club in the year of 1885. This large dog was bred for it extreme sense of smell as it was used to hunt by scent. In actual fact, this breed is so good at following scent that it is often used in search and rescue, and to help track down criminals. The name Bloodhound derived from a position of status as opposed to anything to actually do with hunting or blood! This is a breed that excelled in the duties that it was bred for and produced very accurate work. They make fantastic pets and they are very popular throughout homes in this day and age. |
