History and Origins of the Black And Tan CoonhoundThe History and Origins of the Black And Tan Coonhound is really interesting. The history of the Black And Tan Coonhound began when breeders decided that they required a dog that had the ability to hunt and tree racoon. To create a breed that would exceed at this task, they needed a dog which would have high levels of endurance; a dog that could withstand the conditions no matter what the weather. And so, they created the Black and Tan Coonhound which is actually an all American breed of dog and puppy. This dog was produced by crossing the Bloodhound and the Talbot Hound. It's history also stemmed from the Foxhounds in America which bore the same colors as the Coonhound and the same tracking instincts. This breed was officially recognised by the AKC in 1945, it is classed as a separate breed from the Foxhound and it is listed under the hound group. |
