History and Origins of the Bichon FriseThe History and Origins of the Bichon Frise is really interesting. The history of the Bichon Frise is a little distorted, and their exact country of origin seems to be unknown although it does appear to have had some Spanish influence. We do know however that this breed has descended from the Water Spaniel and its history dates all the way back to the 13th Century, which is a very long time ago and probably the reason why the Bichon Frise's history is not fully known. It is believed that this breed was taken from country to country, and different continents, by sailors from Spain. In the 16th century the breed became very popular with the royal courts of France. The history of these dogs show that they have been used for circus work, and also in paintings by the Spanish school as they were popular amongst the painters. The breed was officially recognised by the American Kennel Club in 1972. | |
