History and Origins of the Bearded CollieThe History and Origins of the Bearded Collie is really interesting. The history of the Bearded Collie began in Scotland, United Kingdom when the breeders required a dog that was capable and highly skilled in herding animals. It is thought that the history and origin of the Bearded Collie was influenced by the Komondor in Central Europe. Originally, this breed was referred to as the Highland Collie as it was used for herding animals in the highlands of Scotland. As this breed has long hair which resemble the facial features of other types of collies, its name was later changed to Bearded Collie. These dogs and puppies are extremely popular pets, throughout family homes in this day and age as they have loyal, affectionate and balanced temperaments. The AKC, American Kennel Club, formally recognised the breed in 1976. | |
