History and Origins of the Beagle

The History and Origins of the Beagle is really interesting. The history of the Beagle began in England, during the 1500s when the English gentlemen required a hound that could hunt and track small animals such as rabbits and hare; a dog that would work well as part of a pack. This breed of puppy and dog would require certain attributes such as being energetic, active, curious, independent, a little stubborn and able to follow scent. The English breeders produced the Beagle through crossing the Harrier with certain other English Hounds. In today's times, this breed of dog and puppy is very popular as a family pet as it is renown for its good nature and delightful temperament. Two varieties are bred these days, they differ in height; 13 inches and 15 inches. The Beagle breed was formally recognised by the AKC, American Kennel Club, in 1885.
