The Personality and Temperament of the Anatolian Shepherd Dog is in many way quite different to other breeds. This dog was initially bred to guard, and this is reflected in their personality today. This breed shows great courage and bravery. It doesn't tend to fear many things, and this attribute, combined with the power and strength that this dog holds, in effect creates a great guard dog. This breed isn't particularly aggressive, in actual fact, these dogs are very calm in their ways, unless otherwise challenged. It is a playful creature and can often make a great family pet, however, it is advisable to always supervise this dog around children, not so much for fear of it intending to hurt a child, rather more that it could get carried away whilst playing and become confused with what it is supposed to be guarding. This is a hard-working animal, and one that is fiercely independent.

Dogs and puppies can be quite stubborn at times, and will sometimes ignore the commands of its' owner. Therefore, it is important to provide suitable training to puppies from as early an age as possible. They do have a loving nature and they are highly devoted to their owners. Their loyalty makes them extremely protective. This dog must not be allowed to dominate, therefore, again training is very important, and they are best handled by an experienced and firm owner. This is a bold animal that has a lot to offer to the right family. It is very energetic and requires a lot of exercise. Anyone thinking of buying an Anatolian Shepherd dog or puppy must consider how much time they have to care and look after its' needs and requirements properly.
