History and Origins of the American Cocker SpanielThe History and Origins of the American Cocker Spaniel is really interesting. The history of the American Cocker Spaniel began in 1880 in America. This breed of dog was originated by the use of the English Cocker Spaniel, however, in today's time they do not share too many similarities in appearance. The breeding of the American Cocker Spaniel meant that the smallest spaniel and the smallest of the Sporting Group was produced. Although small, the American Cocker Spaniel could move quickly and had the ability to hunt and be a gun dog, this dog was also adaptable to water. This active breed of dog was intelligent and harboured a good, gentle and obedient nature. These animals do not serve purpose to hunting in these days, they are one of the most popular breeds and many people have them as house pets. The American Cocker Spaniel was officially recognised by the AKC, American Kennel Club in 1878. |
