The history of the Alaskan Husky began in Alaska, the United States of America, when breeders decided that they wanted a working dog that excelled as a sled dog. This particular breed was carefully created by mixing other pure breeds, spitz type and freighting dogs. Therefore, the Alaskan Husky is not recognised as a pure breed or pedigree dog, and it has not been registered by the American Kennel Club, AKC. They were specifically produced for their sledding abilities and were therefore required to pull heavy loads, move quickly over long distances and participate in sled racing. This particular breed of dog is mainly recognised for its sledding skills, therefore, the Alaskan Husky is also sometimes referred to as sled dog, sleigh man dog, and sledge dog. | |
